Vol. 19 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SCHOOL BOOKS IN IRISH.

asked the Minister for Education if he can state how many manuscripts of Irish books have been submitted to the Department of Education in connection with the scheme for assisting the provision of school books in Irish; how many of such MSS. submitted have been accepted, and produced; and on what system of adjudication have the Department's officers proceeded.

The number of manuscripts submitted is 71. Of these 13 have been accepted; 3 have been produced and the books are now on sale, 3 others are in type and will be ready for issue soon. In adjudicating on MSS. submitted for publication under the scheme, the Department is assisted by the recommendation of a Committee of experts who report as to whether the work is suitable for use in Secondary Schools.
