Vol. 19 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - EXAMINATION OF EGGS.

PADRAIG O DUBHTHAIGH

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is aware that Inspectors of his Department hold up cases of eggs under the Agricultural Produce (Eggs) Act, 1924, for the purpose of examination and that in many cases a week elapses before the examination is completed, thereby entailing loss to merchants and traders, and whether action will be taken to remedy the matter.

Mr. HOGAN

The marketing inspectors, on instructions from the Department, constantly carry out under the Agricultural Produce (Eggs) Act, 1924, inspections of consignments of eggs in transit. When a case is taken from a consignment for examination, the examination is carried out without delay. The Department are not aware of any instances where cases have been held up for a week pending examination.

Arising out of that answer, is the Minister aware that there has been a considerable demand in the County Monaghan for eggs even older than a week?
