Vol. 19 No. 22

CIVIC GUARD (ACQUISITION OF PREMISES) (AMENDMENT) BILL, 1927—SECOND STAGE.

I move the Second Reading of this Bill. It provides for the continuance for a further period of one year of the powers provided by the Act of 1923. There are still over 200 stations where the premises at present occupied are unsuitable as permanent stations. With the present rate of progress at least another year will have elapsed before the Gárda are satisfactorily housed, and in the meantime it is necessary that this power should be retained.

Question put and agreed to.
Bill accordingly read a second time.
Committee Stage ordered for Thursday, May 12th.
