Vol. 20 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - VOTED MONEYS.

asked the Minister for Finance what was the total amount actually expended up to the 31st March, 1927, out of the sum of £6,010,935 voted in the year 1926-7 for purposes likely to promote employment in the Saorstát.

The amount actually expended in the year ending 31st March, 1927, on the services specified in my reply to questions addressed to me on the 7th December last by Deputies O Conaill and Davin, was £4,015,911.

That is to say, that two million pounds voted went back into the Exchequer, and were not spent?

It was not all voted. Some of the six million pounds was made up of anticipated expenditure out of the Central Fund Reserve, including the Road Grant and payments on foot of the Shannon scheme. About one million of the shortage of the issue was in respect of these two heads.
