Vol. 20 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SALE OF LEITRIM LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is aware that approximately 300 acres of land, comprising woods and bogs on the Harleck Gore Estate, Dromod, Co. Leitrim, have been sold privately at £656 by the Land Commission to a Major Kirkwood of the Indian Army, and if directions will be given to the Land Commission to resume possession of these lands and have them distributed amongst the tenants.

Mr. HOGAN

An area of 212 acres of plantation and marsh lands on the estate of the Hon. William Ormsby Gore, adjoining the river Shannon, of no agricultural value and unsuitable for distribution, was sold to Major William Kirkwood, the purchaser of the Mansion House, and vested in him on 20th May, 1927. The Land Commission do not propose to resume possession of these lands.

Is the Minister aware that discontent prevails in the district and that litigation is prevalent amongst the occupiers of the estate?

Mr. HOGAN

The land appears to be unsuitable for division. It is a plantation in marsh.
