Vol. 20 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIMS OF SOLDIERS' DEPENDENTS.

asked the Minister for Defence whether Mrs. R. Lennox, No. 4 Mill Road, Mullingar, widow of James Lennox, No. 2576. Private, Irish National Army, applied for a pension for herself and three children, and if he will state if the pension has yet been paid.

A claim for an allowance under the Army Pensions Act, 1923, was received from Mrs. Kate Lennox in espect of her husband, the late Private James Lennox, who died on the 2/4/'24 from pulmonary tuberculosis. As his death was not attributable to a wound or injury, the claim could not be considered under that Act. The case has, however, been noted for early consideration under the Army Pensions Act, 1927.

asked the Minister for Defence whether any payment has yet been made to the dependents of Major T. J. Maloney, native of Ballyhahill, Co. Limerick, who lost his life in the discharge of his duty at Army manoeuvres in the County Kildare on the 22nd September, 1925, and, if not, what are the Minister's intentions regarding the matter.

No payment has yet been made to the dependents of the late Major Maloney, and I regret that existing legislation makes no provision for such cases. The claim is, however, being considered exceptionally, and I will communicate further with the Deputy as soon as practicable.
