Vol. 20 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - READYPENNY POST OFFICE (LOUTH).

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it is a fact that he has issued an order closing the Post Office at Readypenny, in the County Louth; if he has received a memorial from the residents of the districts served by this post office, praying him to withdraw the order; and, if so, whether he intends to accede to the request contained in this memorial and withdraw the order.

The sub post office at Readypenny is now vacant, and it has been decided to abolish it as it serves no useful public purpose. The amount of business transacted is too small to justify the maintenance of the office. The distance to the nearest office, viz., Duffy's Cross, is only two miles, and there are three other offices within a radius of four miles. I am satisfied that no serious public inconvenience will result from the closing of the office.

A memorial has been received asking for the continuance of the office, but in view of the loss to the State I regret that it is not practicable to accede to the request of the memorialists.
