Vol. 20 No. 8

DENTISTS BILL, 1927—COMMITTEE STAGE.

I move the two resolutions on the Order Paper:

1. Go gcuirtar ar ceal Ordú na Dála den 5adh Iúl, 1927, ag cur Bille na bhFiaclóirí, 1927, chun Coiste den Dáil uile.

1. That the Order of the Dáil of the 5th July, 1927, referring the Dentists Bill, 1927, to a Committee of the whole Dáil be discharged.

2. Go gcuirtar Bille na bhFiaclóirí, 1927, chun Coiste Speisialta ar a mbeidh aon Teachta déag a ainmneoidh an Coiste Roghnathóireachta; go gcomórfar an chéad chruinniú den Choiste Speisialta Dé Máirt, 12adh Iúl; agus gur cúigear a bheidh mar quorum don Choiste.

2. That the Dentists Bill, 1927, be referred to a Special Committee consisting of eleven Deputies, to be nominated by the Committee of Selection; that the first meeting of the Special Committee be held on Tuesday, July 12th; and that the quorum of the Committee be five.

Resolution No. 2 has been put forward at the request of the parties in the House collectively, and that request was based on the argument that sending this Bill to a Special Committee in this way will expedite public business. I hope that that will be the case, but I am not so satisfied of that as some of those who have asked that this should be done appear to be. I do hope that if the Dáil thinks it necessary to re-commit the Bill afterwards—that should it become necessary to re-commit it after coming from the Select Committee, the Dáil will give facilities with regard to expediting the passage of the Bill on its later stages.

I am quite sure, as far as I can understand the position, that there will be no delay occasioned by reference to the Special Committee. I would point out that the object of the Dáil in considering this measure is not merely to expedite public business, but to give consideration to the measures put before it.

The Deputy has laid stress on the matter of expediting the Bill.

Order referring Dentists Bill, 1927, to a Committee of the whole Dáil, discharged.

Ordered: That the Bill be referred to a Special Committee.
