Vol. 20 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WATERFORD MARGARINE FACTORY.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the Waterford Margarine Factory, which employed 80 hands, has been closed since January, and if he will take steps to expedite the findings of the Tariff Commission on the question of the imposition of a tariff on imported margarine.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, I cannot undertake to bring pressure to bear upon the Commissioners, who are required by the Act under which they function to make a very full investigation and report in connection with each application. In the present case, however, I understand that their investigations are complete, and that they are now considering their recommendation.
