Vol. 20 No. 13

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - LIMERICK COUNTY RATE.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health (a) whether the Limerick County rate now struck or about to be struck for the years 1926/27 and 1927/28 will comprise any provision to be levied for a debit balance brought forward from 1925/26 or previous years; (b) if so, whether such balance arises as to any part thereof from illegal over expenditure during earlier years, but subsequent to December, 1922; and, if not, how is such balance treated or disposed of; (c) whether, having regard to the particulars published by the Presiding Inspector at the late Sworn Inquiry as to the relation as at a certain date between land annuity defaults and payment of Central Government Grants to Limerick County, and having regard also to the operation of the Guarantee Fund since such date, there is any provision for levy being included for defaulting land annuitants in the rate or rates now struck or about to be struck, and, if so, to what amount and how computed; (d) whether the large excess of the levy for roads for 1925/26 over the expenditure thereon for same period is being credited against the road levy for purposes of the rate next payable, and, if not, how does it now stand treated or disposed of; and (e) whether any proper balance of the liabilities and assets, cash or otherwise, of the Limerisk County Council has been struck since 31st March, 1920, and, if so, whether such balance is to form the basis of next effective rate, and is such balance certified or to be certified by the auditor being so relied upon?

I have no powers, duties or responsibilities as to the amounts to be included in the rate referred to. The matter is one for the County Council who I understand are acting under legal advice.
