Vol. 20 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FLOODING OF LANDS ADJOINING SHANNON.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received a Memorial submitted by the Reverend Father Malachy Brennan, P.P., complaining of the flooding of agricultural lands adjoining the River Shannon, between Tarmonbarry and Carrick-on-Shannon, and, if so, whether he will state what steps are being taken by his Department to remove the cause of the flooding.

The memorial was duly received. I am advised that the works required to reduce the flooding complained of would probably be very expensive, and it is to be feared that the improvement of the lands would not be sufficient to enable the occupiers to repay the cost. A valuer is going through the district in order to estimate what the improvement would be, but as the district is a large one it will probably be some time before his report is ready.
