Vol. 20 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - THE EARL OF SHAFTESBURY'S ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware that one hundred and forty Civil Bill processes were issued by the Earl of Shaftesbury for the District Court at Carndonagh, Tirconaill, on 22nd July, 1927, against tenants on estates of several middle landlords, some of which estates were purchased under the Land Act, 1903, and others of which are now subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1923, for trespass and bog rent, and if the Minister will direct that an investigation be made of the Earl of Shaftesbury's title to charge the said trespass and bog rent with a view to having it redeemed and resold to the tenants if found to exist and have this dual ownership extinguished.

I have not at present sufficient information to enable me to answer this question. An inspector of the Land Commission has, however, been directed to make inquiries locally, and I shall communicate with the Deputy as soon as the information comes to hand.
