Vol. 20 No. 19

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SANDYFORD SHOOTING TRAGEDY.

asked the President if he has seen in the Press what purports to be an official statement by the Chief Commissioner of the Gárda Síochána relative to the shooting of Joseph Daly at Sandyford on Saturday evening last; if the President is aware that the statement was issued previous to the holding of the Coroner's inquest and when the matter was therefore sub judice, and what steps does he intend taking in connection with the matter.

I have seen the statement in question. I do not consider any action is called for. The intention of the statement obviously was to give such particulars as were officially known with a view to reassuring the public that the episode was the result of an altercation between the parties concerned.
