Vol. 20 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DRAINAGE SCHEMES IN COUNTY WESTMEATH.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is expected to carry out any of the drainage schemes in County Westmeath which have been approved of by the County Council, and if he will state what is the present position of such schemes, and if he will expedite their development.

I am forwarding to the Deputy a statement showing in detail the present position of the petitions for schemes under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, received from the Westmeath County Council. Every effort will be made by the Commissioners of Public Works to expedite these schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance what progress has been made with reference to the Riverstown (County Westmeath) drainage scheme, and when it is expected that this very necessary scheme will be put into operation.

The investigations of the Riverstown (County Westmeath) drainage petition has now reached the stage that a scheme for submission to the occupiers of lands affected is under preparation by the Commissioners of Public Works, and is almost completed. There have been protracted negotiations with the owner of a mill affected, which are not yet concluded. The Commissioners hope, however, to be in a position to submit the scheme to the occupiers of lands to be benefited for their views during the coming autumn.
