Vol. 20 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TRANSFERRED CIVIL SERVANTS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that a number of transferred civil servants gave the six months' notice required under Section 2 (b) and (c) of the 8th Schedule of the Government of Ireland Act, 1920, of their intention to retire more than two years ago, and they have in many cases incurred expenses, such as paying house rents in other places for houses to live in after retirement, and expenses upon arrangements to emigrate, such as passports, visas, steamship arrangements, in the belief that they would be released within two years from the date of their notices under Section 2 (c) of Schedule VIII., and whether, in view of the hardships and losses occasioned by the failure to obtain their release, the Minister will take steps to effect the immediate release of these men and the computation of their compensation; and whether allowances will be made by him for the losses sustained by reason of the fact that Clause 2 (c) of Schedule VIII. has not been adhered to.

I can only refer the Deputy to the reply given by me to the question addressed to me by Deputy Anthony on the 28th ultimo on this subject.
