Vol. 21 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MASSEY ESTATE, CO. CORK.

asked the Minister for Fisheries why the report and recommendation made by an Inspector of the Department on the Massey Estate, and in connection with which a special meeting of the Macroom U.D.C. was called, have not been furnished to the latter body, and if he is aware that Mr. Cors. Kelleher, who has been a grazier on the estate, and who is now in possession of 450 acres of said lands, has lately acquired the remaining portion of 50 acres; that there are upwards of 20 milch cows belonging to landless tenants on the estate, who are paying high prices elsewhere for grazing, and some of whose cattle have to travel long distances to get to same on lands that are already overstocked; that there are a number of families living on the estate who are but fortunate enough to have a cow, but who are anxious and capable of working a portion of those lands and who are unemployed for a considerable time through no fault of their own, and whether he would deem it advisable to have those lands divided and thereby help to relieve the distress and unemployment prevailing in the locality.

The Land Commission cannot issue copies of their Inspectors reports, which are strictly confidential documents. In the schedule of particulars lodged by the owner she has returned 266 acres as being in the occupation of Cornelius Kelleher as tenant thereof, and 105 acres as being in her own occupation. The Commissioners have under consideration the question of the acquisition of the untenanted land and the manner in which the tenanted land should be dealt with.
