Vol. 21 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DUBLIN BAKERY WORKERS' HOURS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that breadvan drivers, yardmen, motor men and checkers, employed in the bakery trade in Dublin, work normally from eleven to sixteen hours per day, and are now agitating for a 48-hour week with fixed hours of work, and whether he does not consider that legislation should be introduced to compel a 48-hour week for these workers.

The answer to all parts of the question is in the negative.

Is the Minister of opinion that matters of that nature can best be settled by means of a strike?

Matters of what nature?

A dispute concerning working hours.

There is no dispute, except the Deputy's imagination is running riot.

Will the Minister receive a deputation from the workers involved?

I will, certainly.

We can arrange that.
