Vol. 21 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - VOLUNTEER'S PAY CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that no reply to a claim for 21 days' pay has been received by Volunteer John Russell, No. 2544, Volunteer Reserve, enlisted at Arklow on 2nd August, 1922, and discharged from Ponsonby Barracks, Curragh Camp, on 26th September, 1922, and whether he will have the consideration of the claim expedited.

A form of application for arrears of pay that was sent to Mr. Russell in October, 1924, was not returned by him. In respect of Mr. Russell's service, overpayment of dependents' allowance was made to an amount that exceeded the amount of 21 days pay. Therefore, even if such arrears as are alleged were actually proved, the amount of such arrears would necessarily be withheld as a set-off against the overpayment.
