Vol. 21 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COMMUNICATION WITH SOUTH CORK ISLANDS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware of the grave inconvenience and serious risk to health and life which are frequently caused by the lack of telephonic or telegraphic communication with the Islands of Cape Clear, Sherkin, Hare, etc., on the South Cork Coast, and if he will consult with the Department of Posts and Telegraphs with a view to the establishment of the most feasible communication with these islands, even though it can be shown that such service will be unremunerative.

No representations have been made to the Department on this matter. If representations are made I will have them considered.

Is the Minister aware that representations were made to the Department of Posts and Telegraphs six years ago?

I have nothing to do with the Department of Posts and Telegraphs.

Do we understand that if representations are made the Minister will give them consideration.

I think that you should make your representations direct to Posts and Telegraphs; that would be my suggestion.
