Vol. 21 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ORDER FOR WOOLLEN CLOTHS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that one of the largest of the wholesale firms in this country has already placed an extra heavy order for woollen cloths with a Bradford firm, and whether he would immediately take steps to get the Tariff Commission to complete their findings on the case submitted by the Irish Woollen Manufacturers.

The findings of the Tariff Commission cannot be completed until the case for and against the application has been fully made. As to the present position, I am informed that the applicants opened their case on the 8th and 9th of this month, and that the opponents will appear before the Commission on Tuesday and Wednesday of the coming week. Further evidence will, I understand, be required from the applicants, and a careful investigation must be made of all the aspects of the application before the Commissioners can prepare their report. If the Deputy has any information of interest to the Commission, perhaps he would consider the advisability of communicating with them direct.
