Vol. 21 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ARMY FATALITY—CLAIM IN RESPECT OF SON.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has received a claim from Mrs. Mary Anne Brophy, Kilmacuddy, Cadamstown, Kinnitty, in respect of her son, James Guinan, who was accidentally killed while serving with the National Army on the 16th September, 1922, and if, in view of the poor circumstances of this woman, he will review his original decision or re-consider sympathetically a new claim in this case.

A claim by Mrs. Brophy in respect of her son, the late Private James Guinan, was dealt with under the Army Pensions Act, 1923. Mrs. Brophy was awarded the maximum gratuity of £100, and having regard to the fact that she was not wholly dependent on deceased, there is no power to grant her a further award.
