Vol. 21 No. 17

ORDER OF BUSINESS.

The order of business to-day is as on the Order Paper, Items 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. After that we will take Private Deputies' business, Local Government (No. 2) Bill, 1927. It may be assumed that since Item 4 will not be taken and Item 5 is the only opposed business on the Order Paper, Item 8 will be reached before the time for Private Deputies' business.

Yes, and it will then be taken.

The other matter is a notice by the President that he intends to move to-morrow that we adjourn until the 15th February.

In view of the fact that the President has stated that it is his intention to move the adjournment to the 15th February, it is not the intention of the Government. I take it, to consider the motion standing in my name this week?

I should hope not. The motion of which notice has been given by the Deputy is one which will not be prejudiced by reason of the fact that we will consider it next year.

No, so long as the President will agree to consider it before the Budget of next year.

Most assuredly.

Are we to take it that none of the other business on the Order Paper will be taken by the Government if the motion for adjournment is carried.

I hope not. The Minister for Industry and Commerce has been taken ill rather suddenly and I am sure that anything affecting his Department would not be best discussed in his absence.

Surely that does not necessitate an adjournment to the 15th February. Such a decision would involve, for example, that the reports from the Tariff Commission could not be given effect to until the Dáil meets again, in three months' time.

The Deputies on these Benches will oppose that motion very strongly.
