Vol. 21 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BANTRY SEWERAGE SYSTEM.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the sewerage system in the town of Bantry has been condemned by the Medical Officer of Health, and if he will recommend a grant out of the Vote for Relief Schemes for this scheme, which is reproductive and would relieve the great unemployment in this town.

If a scheme for the improvement of the system is decided upon by the County Board of Health the matter will be sympathetically considered, but I am unable to give a promise of a grant to any work until the position has been fully examined and the necessity for undertaking relief works is fully established.

It may be added that all these cases ought to go through the local body if every interest is to be considered and if the Relief Grant is to be systematically considered. Putting these cases up except through the local body hardly achieves a practical end.
