Vol. 22 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - THE SHANNON ELECTRICITY ACT.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what measures have been taken to put into effect the provisions of Section 3 (1) (a) of the Shannon Electricity Act, 1925; what method of administration and control has been adopted for the canteens and clubs, if any, provided under the paragraph; who receives the profits derived from these undertakings, and whether he has any information to show that their establishment has resulted in reducing the prices of foodstuffs to workers on the Shannon Scheme.

I have not required the provision of any canteens or clubs in connection with the Shannon works, but understand that the contractors have placed some of the temporary buildings on the works at the disposal of their employees for use as a club. I am not concerned in the administration or control of these clubs, and am consequently not in a position to reply to the remainder of the question.
