Vol. 22 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DRAINAGE SCHEMES IN WESTMEATH.

asked the Minister for Finance why drainage schemes which have been approved by the Board of Works in the Tyrrellspass-Rochfort Bridge area of County Westmeath have not been carried out.

The Commissioners of Public Works received petitions under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, in respect of two proposals in this area—the Rochfortbridge and Milltownpass. In the former case they have decided, as a result of investigation, to prepare a detailed drainage scheme for submission to the occupiers of affected lands, and their Engineer hopes to complete the necessary survey as soon as flood conditions improve. The scheme when prepared will be submitted to the occupiers, and should a majority of them assent and the scheme be confirmed the execution of the works will be put in hand.

The Milltownpass proposal has not yet been approved by the Commissioners of Public Works. It has been inspected by their Engineer and Valuer. Their reports are at present under consideration.
