Vol. 22 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SLIGO BLIND PENSION.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state for what reason the blind pension formerly paid to Mr. Martin McDonagh, Carricknagrip, Co. Sligo, was discontinued, though it had been passed by the local pension committee, sanctioned by the Department of Local Government, and paid to him for a period of over three years.

This claimant was in receipt of a blind pension. In connection with the review of blind pensions carried out some years ago it was discontinued by a decision given on appeal on the 12th March, 1925. On a later appeal his eyesight was examined on the 4th of October, 1927, by the Department's medical inspector, from whose report it appeared that while his right eye was blind he possessed useful vision in his left eye. The claim was therefore disallowed on the 10th of October, 1927, on the ground that he was not blind within the meaning of the Blind Persons Act, 1920.
