CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - AGRICULTURAL RATES AND POOR RATE STATISTICS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (a) the total amount of statutory grant payable yearly in relief of agricultural rates in the Saorstát. (b) the amount of non-statutory grant given to county councils each year since 1923 in relief of agricultural rates. (c) the total poor rateable valuation of the Saorstát, and (d) the total amount of poor rate raised in the Saorstát each year since 1923.

As regards (a) the amount of the agricultural grant in relief of rates on agricultural land payable in accordance with the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, is £599,011. As regards (b) an additional grant of £599,011 in relief of rates on agricultural land has been payable under the Local Government (Rates on Agricultural Land) Act, 1925, since the year 1925. As to (c) the total poor rateable valuation of An Saorstát for the year ending 29th February, 1928, is £11,494,868 18s., and as regards (d) the figures are:—
