Vol. 22 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RESIGNED R.I.C.

asked the Minister for Finance if it is a fact that John Sullivan, late of Dromod, Waterville, County Kerry, who resigned from the Royal Irish Constabulary on August 9th, 1920, because of his national sympathies, applied for a pension to the Department of Finance in December, 1922; if he will state why no reply was sent to the application; and if he is now prepared to consider Mr. Sullivan's claim.

An application for the grant of a pension was received from Mr. Sullivan. After the Committee of Inquiry into resignations and dismissals from the constabulary had examined his claim and had reported that it was not satisfied that his resignation from that force was caused by his national sympathies, the case was in due course reviewed by me, and I saw no reason to disagree with the unfavourable view formed by the Committee. Mr. Sullivan was, accordingly, informed on the 7th October, 1925, that I was unable to authorise the grant to him of a pension. I can see no ground now for re-opening the claim.
