asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the occupiers of the lands flooded by the River Robe, South Mayo, lodged the necessary maps and petitions for the drainage of that river with the Mayo County Council over two years ago; that the County Surveyor reported the urgent necessity of having the drainage carried out and that the County Council passed the necessary statutory resolutions requesting the Commissioners for Public Works to prepare a drainage scheme; and if he will state what steps have been taken by the Commissioners to prepare such drainage scheme and make the necessary preliminary arrangements to proceed with the drainage of that river.

The Commissioners of Public Works received from the Mayo County Council petitions under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, with maps and the statutory resolutions in respect of tributaries to and the upper reaches of the Robe River, and decided to investigate the possibility of devising a comprehensive scheme to include all of these with the large existing Lough Mask and River Robe Drainage District. With this object in view they have had preliminary inspections carried out by an engineer and a valuer, and have their reports under consideration at present. The matter is a large and complicated one and its consideration has necessarily taken a long time. The Commissioners hope, however, to be in a position to lay the financial aspect of the proposals before the county council at an early date.
