Vol. 22 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BORRISOLEIGH (CO. TIPPERARY) OLD AGE PENSION APPLICANT.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the grounds on which an old age pension provisionally awarded to John Fitzpatrick, Ballydaff, Borrisoleigh, County Tipperary, at the rate of 8s. a week, was reduced in 1924 to 4s. per week; if he is aware that, on a question being raised by the Pensions Officer, the Templemore Pensions Sub-Committee confirmed its original recommendation, that Mr. Fitzpatrick be paid a pension of 8s. a week; and if he will state the calculation of means on which the final decision was based.

A pension of 8s. a week was allowed in this case on the 23rd of May, 1924, by the Templemore Pension Sub-Committee. The case came up on appeal in connection with the review of old age pensions under the Old Age Pensions Act, 1924. The maintenance enjoyed by the pensioner on the farm of his sister-in-law was valued at £31 4s. 0d. a year, and by a decision dated the 19th of November, 1924, the pension was reduced to 4s. a week, in accordance with the Act mentioned.
