Vol. 23 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PORT OF CORK.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, as he is requesting the Port and Harbours Tribunal to furnish an interim report in the case of Limerick, he will also request the Tribunal to furnish an interim report on the Port of Cork, in view of the fact that development of the port and of industry within the port area is very seriously restricted because of the rates, dues, and charges operating within the port under an old British Charter.

I have requested the Tribunal to furnish me with an interim report in the case of Limerick dealing with two particular matters, an application by the Limerick Harbour Commissioners for a guarantee of a loan in respect of the cost of a projected dock extension and an application for the construction out of public funds, to be repaid by the Commissioners, of a railway linking the docks with the Great Southern main line. I have not asked for any interim report in respect of the general matters arising under the Tribunal's terms of reference in the case of Limerick or any other port and see no necessity to do so in the case of Cork.
