Vol. 23 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - YOUGHAL FISHING INDUSTRY.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he will take steps to investigate the cause of the recent boating disaster at Youghal, and to inquire into the conditions of the fishermen and the industry generally in that town and district.

An officer from the Department of Fisheries has been directed to investigate the facts relating to the regrettable disaster which recently occurred at Youghal. The general condition of the fishing industry at that place is well known to the Department.

Will the Inspector's report be made available to the Dáil?

That will be a matter for the Minister to decide subsequently.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary advise a grant-in-aid to be given to the dependents of those who lost their lives in this disaster? I have been speaking to the Coroner who held the inquest, and he told me that the dependents were in very poor circumstances.

All relevant matters relating to the disaster will receive consideration when the Inspector submits his report.
