Vol. 23 No. 1

PRIVATE BUSINESS. - PUBLIC BUSINESS.

Can the President say when it is proposed to introduce the Budget?

The Minister hopes to introduce it this day week.

I think this would be the appropriate time to mention that frequently some of us on the back benches cannot hear many members both on the Government Benches and on the other Benches, when they are addressing the House. We have to change our seats in order to hear them, if we want to hear them. Perhaps they would kindly speak up in future.

The President gave a promise some days before the adjournment that he would consider the question of setting aside some Government time for the consideration of the Report of the Committee on Public Accounts. There is a desire on the part of some members of the Committee that that time should be afforded as soon as possible or before we go very far into the discussion on the Estimates. I would like to know if he has come to a decision on that matter, or whether facilities will be given so that we can adjourn other business some day after questions are dealt with to allow this discussion to be carried on.

I assume the Deputy does not wish to postpone the introduction of the Budget in order to find that time. I will endeavour to find time on the week following the introduction of the Budget.

Government time?

Yes, but I hope the Deputy does not infer from that that I do not propose to take all the time next week.
