Vol. 23 No. 1

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - MAYO OLD AGE PENSION CLAIMS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that Mrs. Mary Moran, Glengad, Pulathomas, County Mayo, was awarded an old age pension by the Knocknalower Old Age Pensions Sub-Committee; that her claim was disallowed on appeal by the local pensions officer; that she has furnished three sworn declarations by old age pensioners in support of her claim; and whether he will have this case reconsidered.

This applicant was allowed an old age pension of 9s. a week on the 27th September, 1927, by the Knocknalower Pension Sub-Committee and it came up subsequently on appeal. The only definite evidence available as to age was the entry in the Marriage Register that the applicant was twenty-five years old when married on 20th February, 1884. Statutory declarations were received from two neighbours, which were not, however, considered sufficient to warrant the allowance of a pension. The claim was disallowed on the 25th October, 1927. Decisions given on appeal under the Old Age Pensions Acts cannot be reconsidered.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that Mrs. Bridget Doocey, Gortbrack, Barnatra, Ballina, County Mayo, was awarded an old age pension by the Knocknalower Old Age Pension Sub-Committee in September, 1927; that, on appeal by the pensions officer, her claim was disallowed; that she has furnished three sworn declarations by old age pensioners in support of her claim; and whether the Minister will take steps to have this case again investigated.

This claimant was allowed an old age pension of 9s. a week by the Knocknalower Pension Sub-Committee on the 27th September, 1927, and an appeal made was decided on the 22nd October, 1927. The claim was disallowed, as it was not clear on the evidence submitted that the claimant had attained the statutory age. Statutory declarations were furnished by four neighbours, which were not, however, considered sufficiently relevant and conclusive to justify the allowance of a pension. Decisions given on appeal under the Old Age Pensions Acts cannot be reconsidered.
