Vol. 23 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RIVER GRIESE DRAINAGE.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received any application for a loan under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, from the people of Ballytore, County Kildare, and district, for the drainage of the River Griese; and if he will state what action he proposes to take in the matter.

Mr. BOURKE

The Commissioners of Public Works received a petition under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, in respect of the drainage of the Griese River, and have had the proposal investigated by an engineer and a land valuer on their behalf. As a result of consideration of these officers' reports, the Commissioners decided to submit the facts of the case to the Minister for Finance and the Kildare County Council with a view to obtaining free grants towards the cost of the works. The Minister for Finance has agreed to give the necessary free grant, and the matter is being submitted to the Kildare County Council. If they also agree to give a grant, the Commissioners will prepare a detailed drainage scheme and submit it to the votes of the occupiers.
