WRITTEN ANSWERS. - INCOME TAX RETURNS.

asked the Minister for Finance (1) what was the total amount of taxable earned income in Saorstát Eireann for the years ending the 31st March, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, and 1928 respectively; (2) what was the total amount of taxable unearned income in the same years, and (3) what was the total taxable income (earned and unearned) in those years.

Statistics of the total taxable income coming under review by the Revenue Commissioners are at present only available for the years 1923-24, 1924-25 and 1925-26, and of these it is only possible at the moment to segregate the total of £24,461,000 for 1923-24 between earned and unearned income, the estimated amounts being £9,206,000 and £15,255,000 respectively. If the total taxable incomes for 1924-25 and 1925-26 were divided in the same proportion the results would be

asked the Minister for Finance if he can state the estimated total earned income and the total unearned income of all citizens in Saorstát Eireann in the years 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926 and 1927, respectively.
