Vol. 23 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COLLECTION OF INCOME TAX.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can state (a) the total amount of income tax certified by the Revenue Commissioners as collectable for 1926-27, and for 1927-28, respectively; (b) the total amount of such tax collected up to 1st April, 1928, in respect of the years 1926-27 and 1927-28, respectively; and (c) the amounts of the respective assessments for those years outstanding at 1st April, 1928.

The total assessments to income tax made in the year 1926-27 amounted to £6,427,000. Complete figures for 1927-28 are not yet available.

The total amounts collected up to 31st March, 1928, in respect of these years were:—

1926-27

£4,393,954

1927-28

£2,350,215

A certain amount of the tax originally assessed in respect of these years has been discharged or will be discharged on the grounds of exemption, overcharge, personal allowances, etc. Statistics of the discharges in respect of 1926-27 and 1927-28 have not yet been compiled and it is, therefore, not possible to state at present what amounts were outstanding on 1st April last.
