Vol. 23 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF CO. KILDARE LANDS.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he is aware that the Land Commission acquired 55 acres of land outside Athy from Mr. Minch, Rockfield, Athy, which he had under tillage; and that this land has since become derelict, and is used as a common by unauthorised people.

The lands referred to comprise a holding of 52a. 2r. 13p. in the townland of Chanterlands, held by Mrs. Elizabeth Mary Minch and others as tenants on the estate of Annie Caroline McCune and others, County Kildare. The Land Commission have obtained an order from the Judicial Commissioner authorising them to resume this holding, and the Commissioners are arranging to take over possession thereof at an early date.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that quite recently there were grazing on this land a mare and foal, 17 bullocks and 27 goats that were not the property of anybody who had a right to be there; and will the Land Commission for their own sake see that this land is guarded or else divided?

The Land Commission have no responsibility for that as they have not got possession of the land yet.
