Vol. 23 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DRAINAGE OF KERRY RIVER.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can state the reason for the delay in proceeding with the scheme of drainage of the River Akeragh, under the provisions of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, as submitted to the Kerry County Council by the Office of Public Works in their letter of 14th April, 1927, and accepted, with a contribution of 20 per cent. of the cost by the Council; whether, in view of the fact that the most suitable season for work of this nature is now at hand, he will have work expedited.

After receiving the promise of the County Council contribution the Commissioners of Public Works prepared a detailed drainage scheme for the Akeragh Lough district and exhibited it for the votes of the occupiers. A public inquiry was then held in respect of the objections to the scheme. As a result of the inquiry certain minor revisions in the scheme were found necessary and these are now being made. It is hoped to submit the scheme to the Minister for Finance for confirmation shortly, and, if and when it is confirmed, work will be started without delay.
