Vol. 23 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. Oral Answers. - LEGISLATION ON TECHNICAL EDUCATION.

asked the Minister for Education whether he will state when he expects to be able to introduce proposals for legislation based on the report of the Commission on Technical Education.

The recommendations of the Commission are at present being examined in my Department, but I am not yet in a position to make any statement on the subject of legislation based on the report.

Has the Minister taken into consideration the fact that many of the recommendations contained in the report of the Gaeltacht Commission and referred to the Commission on Technical Education are being held up owing to the fact that delay has taken place in connection with these proposals?

I presume the Deputy has read the report of the Technical Commission?

I shall be quite ready to receive any suggestions from the Deputy as to how that report should be dealt with and what legislation should be immediately introduced; what cases are the most urgent, and what recommendations should be first taken in hand. These are matters which will have to be carefully considered if the report is to get the fair chance and the consideration that a report of that magnitude and, I may say, excellence deserves.

I presume it is getting that examination from the Minister?

Yes, you may presume that.

Can the Minister gives us any idea as to when some such proposals as I have mentioned will be brought forward?
