Vol. 24 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FINGLAS WATER SUPPLY.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware of the fact that, owing to the failure of a pump a large portion of Finglas village has had no water supply for a considerable time past; that the North Dublin Rural District Council has taken no steps to repair the pump in question, and that the only means of effectively supplying the village is by an extension of the Vartry water supply from the Dublin Corporation system; whether, with this in view, the Council has submitted a scheme to his Department, and, if so, whether the Minister will expedite consideration of the matter and facilitate the Council in its efforts to provide a proper supply; and whether he will represent to the Council the importance in the meantime of maintaining the pump in proper working order.

I have no information about this, and no scheme has been submitted. The Deputy might address the Rural District Council on the matter.

Is the Minister aware that the facts as stated in the question are correct?

I have said I have no information about it.

Can the Minister not ascertain if they are correct? Is there any machinery by which the Minister could ascertain whether the facts are correct or not?

I do not feel called upon to initiate inquiries in every case in which somebody suggests that in some place in this country there is something wrong with a pump.
