Vol. 24 No. 4

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - HOMESPUN INDUSTRY.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he can state what progress is being made with the scheme for the encouragement of the homespun industry; and, in particular, towards the establishment of one or more carding and dyeing factories in County Donegal, and of a central depot in Dublin.

Correspondence is proceeding between my Department and the Department of Finance regarding the proposals which have been submitted for the revival of the Donegal homespun tweed industry which include the provision of a local carding and dyeing factory. Definite proposals for the centralised marketing of the rural industries products have recently been submitted to the Department of Finance for consideration. Until these proposals have been approved by the Minister for Finance, no steps can be taken by my Department to put them into operation.
