Vol. 24 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ALLOTMENT OF TURF BANKS IN CO. KILDARE.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he is aware that about fifteen tenants of the Irish Land Commission have been allotted turf banks on the Wright Estate, Coolcarrigan, County Kildare; that the cartway, about 500 yards in length, lying between the Mansfield and Wright Estates, and leading from Hodgestown county road to the turf banks, is in very bad condition, and will, at the end of the season, become waterlogged and impassable, thus preventing the harvesting of turf; and whether he will, in order to help these people, who live chiefly by the cutting and sale of turf, give instructions to the Land Commission to have the necessary improvement works, as promised, carried out at once.

The road in question is the old existing right of way to the bog. The Commissioners are instructing an inspector to visit these lands and report on the present condition of this road.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say if this work is to be carried out this summer?

I cannot give any undertaking that the work will be carried out at all.

I think you could.
