Vol. 24 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IMPORTATION OF FINISHED WORK IN ITALIAN MARBLES.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that considerable quantities of finished work in Italian marbles are being imported into An Saorstát to the grave detriment of Irish workers in sculpture, stone dressing and quarrying, and whether he will take steps to prohibit such importations.

The quantities of finished stone imported into the Saorstát are given in the "Trade and Shipping Statistics." If the firms engaged in stone-dressing and cutting wish to seek protection by way of a tariff or otherwise against imported finished stone, they should make application to the Tariff Commission.
