Vol. 24 No. 7

A CORRECTION.

As a matter of public importance might I draw attention to a mistake which occurred in the last Official Report where an amendment is given as Amendment 3 moved by Deputy de Valera, but it is the wrong amendment 3. It should have referred to Articles 47 and 48, and it did not.

That is so.

[Correction, as indicated, made in this volume.]

Might I also draw attention to the fact that on the introduction to the discussion on Constitution (Amendment No. 6) Bill certain points of order were raised.

The Deputy has given no notice of this.

I have just had an opportunity of reading the debate now.

What debate is it?

Thursday, 14th. I think in the course of the discussion you stated that you would be guided in your decisions from the Chair by reason and not specifically by the Standing Orders. I fail to see the record of that in the Official Report. I thought from our point of view that decision might be a very important one in view of giving the Chair discretion to over-ride the Standing Orders. I have read the Report carefully and I cannot see any reference to that statement, which particularly remains in my mind, in the Report of the debate.

Perhaps you will make inquiries how that extremely significant statement happens to be left out of the records of the House.

The question arises first, was the statement made, and, secondly, if it was made, was it left out. I do not agree that the statement was made that the Ceann Comhairle was guided by reason and not by the Standing Orders. The Ceann Comhairle is guided by reason and the Standing Orders.
