Vol. 24 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DIVISION OF ROSCOMMON ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he can state why the claim of Mr. Andrew McGreevy, of Carrick-on-Shannon, the eldest son of an evicted tenant on the Lloyd Estate at Toorymartin, County Roscommon, was disallowed, and why he was not granted a portion of the lands, when the farm from which his father had been evicted was being divided by the Land Commission; and whether the Minister will take steps to have this decision reconsidered.

The Land Commission have inquired into and considered Andrew McGreevy's application as the representative of an evicted tenant and have decided not to take any action in the matter.

What is the reason for that decision?

There was no land available for him.

Was not the land available at Toorymartin, from which he was evicted?

That is a totally different matter.

Is not that what is in the question?

This estate is a very small one, only 175 acres. Of the 14 people provided with land, twelve were small holders, one a herd, and the other a labourer. McGreevy is a mason and not depending on land. At all events, his claim is really outside the scope of any one of the Land Acts.

Is he not an evicted tenant? And should not he have first claim?

No, that is a matter for the Land Commission.

He was treated very badly.
