Vol. 25 No. 5

SUMMER RECESS.

I think it would be a great convenience to many Deputies if the President could indicate when the Dáil intends to adjourn for the Recess. I see that it is stated in the newspapers this morning that there is a possibility of adjourning on Friday. A certain number of Deputies want to make arrangements for going away, and if the President could give some indication of his intentions in the matter, it would facilitate them.

If I were to express a desire, it would be that we should adjourn on Friday, but looking over the list of items that we have to deal with, I think it may be necessary to meet for one day next week and one day the week after. The Dáil would probably be able to finish on the day on which it meets next week, but it would afterwards have to receive any Bills sent back from the Seanad if amendments were inserted in the Seanad.

Does the President mean a day in August as the day on which the Dáil will meet on the second occasion?

I think it might run to the end of July or perhaps 1st August. It will be a matter for the convenience of Deputies, of course.
