Vol. 25 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - VESTING OF KERRY ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he is aware that a resolution asking for the immediate vesting of the McGregor estate, Caragh, Co. Kerry, purchased under the Land Act, 1923, was passed by the Kerry County Council, and a copy of this resolution forwarded to the Irish Land Commission; and whether, in view of the fact that the agent has threatened three tenants in Quaybawn with legal proceedings if they do not cease to sell turf and turbary, and considering that the sale of turf and turbary is the principal means of livelihood of these tenants, that two of these three tenants have families numbering twenty-four persons, who are subsisting solely on the produce of one holding, the valuation of which is only £3, and that the other tenant has a family of eight persons depending solely for their sustenance on the produce of a holding, the valuation of which is £2, he will take steps to have this estate taken out of its order and so have it vested immediately.

The resolution dated 3rd May, 1928, referred to, was duly received by the Land Commission. The schedules of particulars in respect of this estate were not lodged until 17th January last, and it is not possible to deal with it out of its turn, in view of the large number of estates in respect of which particulars were lodged at earlier dates and which have to be dealt with.

Mr. O'REILLY

Is the Minister going to do anything more with regard to these twenty-two persons I have mentioned?

We are in communication with the parties concerned upon the whole matter.
