Vol. 25 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TRAINING COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS.

asked the Minister for Education whether he will state the number of boys who passed the scholarship examination in Easter, 1928; the number in each division; the number who qualified for admission to De La Salle Training College, and the number who qualified for admission to Drumcondra Training College as a result of the examination.

The number of boys who passed the Easter Scholarship Examination, 1928, is 189, arranged in divisions as follows:—

1st Division

4

2nd ,,

37

3rd ,,

148

Candidates, other than untrained assistants or graduates of a university, who apply for admission to De la Salle Training College, Waterford, or to St. Patrick's Training College, Drumcondra, and who qualify for admission to training at the Easter Scholarship Examination, are, other conditions being fulfilled, admitted to training in order of merit, apart from the college for which they apply, due consideration being, however, given to the preference shown by the candidates in their applications.

The number of candidates, other than untrained assistants or university graduates, from the Easter Scholarship Examination who will be admitted to training this year is approximately 120—i.e., about 60 to each college.
