Vol. 26 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FINANCING OF HOUSING SCHEMES.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he can state the Government proposals for future financing of housing schemes; whether steps will be taken to see that a larger number of the smaller type of house is erected at reasonable rents; and whether arrangements will be made for the continuance of grants to private builders, utility societies, and persons anxious to build their own houses.

A Bill providing under terms similar to the Housing Act, 1925-6, such further sum by way of grants to private persons and public utility societies as will cover houses begun before the 17th October, 1928, will be introduced at an early date. The Bill will also make provision for grants to such local authorities as have already entered into definite commitments to carry out Improvement Schemes under the Housing of the Working Classes Acts and the Labourers (Ireland) Acts. The question of the smaller types of houses for letting at reasonable rents is receiving special consideration.
